The Zinc Oxide Division manufactures zinc oxide from high grade and special high grade zinc metal as well as from zinc secondaries. With 2 locations in the United States it is one of the world’s largest producers of zinc oxide. Uses of zinc oxide are varied, however, its largest use is in the rubber industry.
The Zinc Metal Division, located in Houston, Texas, is a full service source for galvanizers. It is the largest buyer and recycler of zinc secondaries in North America, and produces zinc metal for the hot-dip galvanizing industry. It is also an excellent source for other grades of zinc metal, and with extensive contacts worldwide, galvanizers can rely on us for accurate market information.
The Trading Division of U.S. Zinc consists of two offices. MetalChem, Inc. in Pittsburgh, PA serves as the headquarters for this division which trades zinc items all over the world. Our second office is located in Houston, TX.
The Zinc Dust Division is strategically located in Houston, Texas. We are the single largest producer of zinc dust in the US and have the broadest product range within our industry. A proud history in excess of 50 years ensures secure and reliable supply of a quality product and service. Paint and coatings are the largest consumer of zinc dust however, other applications apply in the chemical, mining and oil industries.
IZI Division - Interamerican Zinc, Inc. (IZI) utilizes a patented process to recycle continuous galvanizing top and bottom zinc drosses. The recovered CGG zinc is produced to each customer's individual specification within a range of 0.25% to 0.80% aluminum content. The excellent quality CGG zinc is cast into 2,400 lb. strip jumbo ingots meeting ASTM dimensional specifications; 2,400 lb. block ingots; and 60 lb. slabs stacked into 2,100 lb. slab units. The CGG zinc is returned to the continuous galvanizing plant. The IZI plant is the only plant in the Western Hemisphere utilizing this environmentally pro-active technology. The IZI dross processing capacity is 20,000 short tons per year.
Recently US Zinc was acquired by Votorantim Metais (VM), a Brazilian company that is among the ten main zinc producers of the world. VM is also leader in nickel electrolyte production in Latin America and the third largest Brazilian structural steel producer.
