Tela Viva de Cidadania e Cultura (Live Citizenship and Culture Screen)
Promoted by Aluminum business unit, the Tela Viva (Live Screen) Project – coordinated by NGO Fábrica do Futuro Institute – is a public education program for Brazilian audiovisual production, especially through a travelling mobile cinema exhibition unit in the region of Itamarati de Minas (MG). The initiative promotes integration with local development activities and forums, mainly looking to collaborate with public culture, education and youth policies.
Since the beginning of the project in 2008, 14,400 young people between 15 and 29 years old have already benefited from it (2010 data). Furthermore, selected students from local schools were involved in workshops carried out in every city, in which they had access to Internet production and multimedia content publication concepts and techniques and practical training in social networks such as Orkut, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Youtube, Vimeo, blogs, forums and interest sites. The plan is to maintain an average of 100 sessions per year.
SESI Choral
As part of the cultural activities promoted by VM Nickel business unit, the company held an association in 2009 with Serviço Social da Indústria (SESI) in this education and development project of choir groups within companies, to integrate workers, dependants and community. The purpose is to stimulate the workers’ artistic and cultural potential. Since the beginning of the project, 40 young people have benefited from practices carried out in a weekly basis performing a show at the end of the term.
Cine Clube Itinerante (Itinerant Cinema Club )
Feasible through VM Zinc business unit, the purpose of Cine Clube Itinerante Conscienciarte project is to build a fixed and a mobile space for the artistic-cultural dissemination in the municipalities of Vazante, Três Marias and Paracatu. The objective is to take digital culture to the greatest number of people possible and therefore create a system of interactive communication with youths. This way, low-income communities start to have access to cultural, digital and leisure assets. The investment made by the company is for spreading audiovisual production through film itinerant exhibitions/shows – preferably Brazilian – and to young people training in the audiovisual area (photography and video). Since the beginning of the project, 5,060 young people have benefited from it.
Social Action Through Music
The intention of the project is to improve the cultural condition of a section of the population in the region of Juiz de Fora (MG) and give these people job and employment opportunities, through teaching and practicing music. Implemented by NGO Centro Cultura Pró-Música, the program benefited 320 young people in 2010. Pró-Música has been teaching of musical instruments, free of charge, for more than 29 years.
Biblioteca Viva (Live Library)
The Morro Agudo (MG) region, through the performance of the VM zinc business unit, has benefited from the NGO Fundação Conscienciarte’s Biblioteca Viva initiative, whose main purpose is to stimulate interest in reading as a source of information, recreation and personal development. The initiative was carried out through literary caravans, mobile libraries – reading chests, lectures, workshops, competitions and prize awarding, literary competitions, history telling, drama presentations and puppet theaters, looking to promote access to literary assets for 6,040 people in the region, as well as to educate 40 young people and increase literary knowledge.
