In 2003, Votorantim began an extremely significant process to resurrect its history. During celebrations of its 85th anniversary, the company launched the Votorantim Memory Project, which is intended to strengthen ties and honor the role of each employee in building the path of Votorantim, as well as the economic, social, and political development of Brazil.
In 2005, the Memory Project opened a new physical space, occupying an area of 260m2 of the Edifício Ermírio de Moraes building, located at Praça Ramos de Azevedo, no. 254, 1st floor, in the historic center of São Paulo.
So far, 300 audio and video recordings have been made, including statements by 874 employees, and 43,000 documents, such as photographs, books, films, and objects have been indexed. Based on this material, the Group published a two-volume set of books “Votorantim 85 years,” and “Votorantim for me,” as well as a video, also titled “Votorantim 85 years.” The collection is organized and stored in a climate-controlled technical storeroom, conservation room, and library. The project also has a small auditorium, meeting room, recording studio, and on-line terminals for consultation.
In 2009, opening ceremonies for new rooms and shows open to the public are planned in celebration of the Group’s 90th anniversary.
This Votorantim initiative was recognized with the Aberje São Paulo 2004 and Aberje Brasil 2006 awards in the category of Historical responsibility and Business Memory.
