The Morro Agudo Unit took the 7th Furnas Ouro Azul Prize in the Private Company category. Sponsored by the newspapers Estado de Minas (MG), Correio Brasiliense (FD) and Jornal do Comércio (RJ) in association with Furnas Centrais Elétricas, the prize goal is to value creative projects for the conservation and recovery of water resources. The granting ceremony took place on December 10, in Belo Horizonte.
A highlight among several works developed by companies in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais and in the Federal District, the Water Impounding Reduction Project has allowed the Unit to cut the consumption of impounded water in the Escurinho Stream since 2006.
The Young Environmental Educators Project of the Três Marias Unit competed in the Community category and was 4th among the 43 applicants. The move trains low-income youngsters interested in environmental matters who look for a chance on the labor market.
